“A few years ago, I saw an advertisement that claimed Pilates made you taller. Standing 5’2”, the thought of stretching my body to its limits was enticing. I found a Pilates studio and my journey began. Julie Van Der Meyden has been my instructor for most of my tenure as a Pilates student and devotee. Julie has pushed and challenged me with the utmost of patience and a hefty dose of fun. She has a calm and gentle way of managing to challenge your every muscle while helping you to be your very best. I call her “silent but deadly” in terms of getting results. I come away from every session feeling energized and ready to take on the world. I’m still only 5’2”, but spending time with Julie has made me reach many new heights!”

“Julie and her team at Balance Point Pilates are amazing. I was new to pilates and learned how to discover my core. I’m very happy with the classes provided and would recommend everyone to try a class at Balance Point Pilates! 5-star experience!”

“Julie is the kind of instructor you always hope for. Someone with advanced skill and training who knows how to teach and provides just the right level of challenge each time you come in. Over the years that I've taken private lessons with Julie, I've found that I am just as sure to break a smile as I am to break a sweat. Pilates with Julie has made me stronger and more centered, both in the studio and throughout my day.”

“I want to thank Amy Salomon most recently for working so hard to maintain your services through COVID. You and your associates have maintained such a professional balance to promote Pilates under unusual circumstances; both in the studio and out of the studio-using Zoom classes. Doing Pilates 2x/week with you as my personal trainer has helped me maintain a very healthy lifestyle. Not only am I stronger physically and more flexible, my overall approach to my daily routine- be it exercise or work, incorporates all that you have taught me.”

“Having been a client of Julie’s for the last several years I cannot tell you how excited I am to have the ability to continue with her instruction. Diagnosed with osteoarthritis soon after I started , which later resulted in both a knee and hip replacement, Julie was very supportive. Her experience and knowledge while working with me during my rehabilitation was incredible. Always watching, always checking, always very attentive. She made sure I didn’t do anything that wouldn’t compromise my recovery. Even now Julie makes sure that I’m comfortable and offers options if a particular move causes any pain.”

“I highly recommend my Pilates instructor, Amy Salomon. When I started to work with Amy, I was rehabilitating a left shoulder injured when my car was rear ended in rush hour freeway traffic. My physical therapist recommended Pilates as a means of strengthening my core to help keep my shoulders in alignment. My left and right sides were highly asymmetrical in strength, the left arm had less range of motion than the right, and I had bouts of painful muscles in the left shoulder and neck. Amy thoughtfully designed practices that improved the strength of my left arm and shoulder, always being careful not to push beyond where I was at the time. She worked to improve my core strength and alignment. She consistently watches for and works with me to correct bad movement patterns. My sessions with Amy have been a key factor in where I physically am today – my left side strength is almost the same as the right, I have symmetrical range of motion on the left and right side. I rarely experience pain in the left shoulder or neck, despite a demanding work schedule involving a lot of computer work. My core strength is way better – I can now do planks and boat poses in yoga with (comparative) ease. Now over 5 years later, Amy has helped me through several low back, mid back and S/I joint flare-ups. I’ve had flare-ups off and on since the mid 1980’s. Thanks to the Pilates work, I generally recover more quickly. Amy always adapts and works on what I can do at the time, along with suggestions on what to avoid and why. Sessions with Amy are challenging but fun and varied. She encourages you to attempt new exercises and variations when she feels you are ready. My session is one of the high points in my work week; I always feel better coming out than I did going in. Due to increased, more symmetrical strength even my golf game has improved! I look forward to continuing my workouts with Amy.”
